Using the Library

Loan Periods

Most library materials may be checked out for 3 weeks. Certain collections, including Academic Success, Careers, and Popular DVDs, have a 3 day loan period. Items in the Reserve collection have either a 3 day or a 3 hour loan period. Course reserves may be checked out for 3 hours. All materials may be renewed once by calling (312) 427-2737 x710 or online at http://catalog.jmls.edu/patroninfo. Some materials cannot be checked out, including looseleafs, parts of any set with more than 2 volumes, and reference books.

Overdue Materials/Fines

Please return all overdue materials as soon as possible so that others can use them. Students are charged fines for reserve materials at the rate of $1.00 per hour. Alumni and CBA members are charged fines of $1.00 per day for regular materials and $1.00 per hour for reserves. Once an item is several weeks overdue, you will be billed for its replacement cost and a processing fee.

Reserves

The Course Reserve collection contains materials that professors specifically ask to have set aside for a class. The General Reserve collection contains high use items. Ask for these materials at the Circulation Desk.

Research Assistance

Please contact the Reference Librarians at the reference desk on the 6th floor or by phone (312.427.2737 x729), email library@jmls.edu, or online chat from the library homepage (the meebo chat box on the lower left side).

Copiers/Printers/Scanners

The library has 6 print/scan/photocopiers: 6th floor outside the double glass doors, 6th, 7th, 8th, and 9th floor stairwells, and 10th floor northwest corner. Copies cost fifteen cents per page and automatic stapling is available. Send your print job to the network and release it at any print station. Machines work with school-issued IDs. To get more money on your ID, go to the security desk on the 2nd floor. Students can also add more credits online (see http://www.jmls.edu/intranet/its/printing.shtml).

Group Study Rooms

Group study rooms are available on floors 8, 9, and 10. Sign up for a study room online. These rooms are only available for group study by 2 or more students. Each student is limited to reserving two hours per week. Faculty and staff should check with the Registrar's Office to find meeting space elsewhere in the school.
